Combination Silk Thread bangle set

I had a feeling that I am not doing the silk thread weaving properly after I made this set. Every work is a learning. process. Though I am not happy with the work, I wanted to post it to in the blog as that is also one of the works that I have made. The gold bangle is decorated with silver lace. The bangle size is 2.10

Quilled Kumkuma Chimizh

When you can make water resistant why cant you make a kumkuma chimizh in paper asked my friend. So I tried making domes and painted them with pearl acrylic colours. the best part is the kili (Parrot), that I was able to make and fix on top of the lid.

Santa Claus - 3D Miniature

There was a contest in one of the FB craft groups to make Santa Claus. It could be either 2D or 3D. After looking at various images over the net, I decided to take a try at making 3D Santa. Collected Red Strips and google eyes. Made bee hive designs for the beard and moustache. Fringed the tip of the cap. The challenging part was making the cap. The legs were made of 10 mm cream strips. For shoes I had used 5 mm strips. Rest of the red strips are 5mm.

How to find your bangle size

When I started making silk thread bangles I wanted the size of bangles people wear to make the right size for them. Many people found it difficult to tell me their bangle size. After searching the net, I found out an information, which was a learning for me too. I am sure people will be benefitted by this.

How Can I Find My Bangle Size?
To determine your bangle size, follow these steps:
STEP 1: Close your fingers together and bring your thumb to your little finger (as pictured). Pretend that you were putting on a bangle
STEP 2: Using a strip of paper or tape measurements, wrap it around your hand at the widest point.. If you are using a plain strip of paper, mark your size with a pen on that paper. Then measure that paper strip with a ruler. That would be the circumference of your hand.
STEP 3: Compare your hand circumference to the chart below. Purchase a bangle with diameter that is the next size up from your actual hand measurement.
DIAMETER CIRCUMFERENCE SIZE
2 3/8" 7 1/2" Small
2 5/8" 8 1/4" Medium
2 3/4" 8 3/5" Large

Multicolour silk thread bangle

Making of silk thread bangles become another passion after quilling and when the outcome is very impressive it makes me do more and more. The threads that I got from Pune had a spool of multi colour thread. Tried making bangles using that. Made thin bangles of half a dozen using that that. Hope you my viewers and readers to like it.

Bangle size - 2.8

Self Attached Jhumka

A jhumka is meant to be swaying, when some one talks or shakes their head. But there is one design that was quite interesting and I wanted to try it out too. Though was not so sure how it will look when worn, just tried it in my favourite colour black. The outcome was awesome and my daughter grabbed it immediately saying that she wanted it. I just did not leave it plain enough, but decorated it with small golden ball chain in the stud and flowery embelishments in the jhumka.

The stud is made of 3mm black strips and the jhumka is made up of 5 mm strips.

Three layered Jhumka set

After trying out a few different types of Jhumkas, I decided to make a 3 layered jhumka. The first layer of Jhumka is a combo of Violet and Orange, the second layer is orange and the third layer is violet. The first layer of combo is not made of strips attaching with one another, but it is a different kind of technique where the strips are placed on top of one another thus giving a different kind of effect. I added a few pink loreals too to make it more attractive. This set went to a lovely little girl in Dubai, who wanted something different. So the pendant also had the same three layers. She loved it very much and I am also happy about the outcome.

Ceramic Cone Art on Paper

When I had to do Aarthi plate for a marriage, they provided me with a stainless steel plate and asked me to deocrate it as I like and one of the designs I made is ceramic cone art. The only condition I was told was that the plate should be reused. So I had to stick a chart inside the plate and do the decoration. I prefferred yellow background for the ceramic cone art and it definitely gave a good look. As the ceramic paint is puff up paints the impression that it created on the paper too was amazing. I placed a small terracotta lamp in the middle too which made it a complete Aarthi Thali.

Silk Thread Bangles

After Quilling the next thing I ventured into was making Silk Thread Bangles. As ever never attended any classes learnt it all by myself and it fascinated me a lot. Making these bangles was full of fun. I initially tried with the embroidery thread that I had at home. Then one of my friend suggested that I try it with silk thread bangles and so I purchased an array of threads from one of my friend who is an online supplier. With the threads she sent me I started trying making silk thread bangles and my first try was making a bangle in yellow with red flower stones.
