The next step into Quilling

It all started with trying out 2D images, yes simple 2D images, I was not confident enough to make them stand alone just as I saw in the pictures, so I used MDF board and I created the image of Pillayar, my all time favourite. Cant stop making Ganehsa image in any art form. I just have to start with it what ever art from I make, and here it is.

Used the remaining green colour strips in the bunch and I made the Ganesha. Initially it was just Ganesha but then I felt I need to fill in the places I made two lamps and a bowl of Kozhukattai. As I did not have white coloured paper, I used brown paper to give the effect of fried Kozhukattai.

Daughter's wish mother's pride

Though the Jhumka set is of the colour of my daughter's uniform she felt she cannot wear it to school regularly. so she asked me to make one regular wear ear ring and so did my niece who was also impressed by the design. The set consists of a pair of ear rings and a small pendant. This set costs you Rs. 60 (courier charges extra.)

First Quilling - Jhimki

I was just browsing through the net to do something creative. I happened to see some jhimkis and ear rings made of paper strips and that art is called as Quilling. Saw that it is done using a needle, but there was also a suggestion that, it could be done using long needle or tooth pick. Initially I tried with tooth pick but it did not give me that much comfort, so tried it with a long safety pin. And as per the instruction which I read, I was able to make a tight coil. But what next was my thought, so I checked the net how to make a jhumki out of that tight coil, it called for a mould, but I did not have one. Infact even those strips that I had at home, were bought to decorate some assignment work of my kids. When we bought those strips, I did not have even the slightest idea, that it could be used to make something wearable.

The immediatly available item was pencil and pen with rounded back, I used it to make a cone shape. Removed the pin, stud and rings from a old set and made this lovely set for my daughter. The first quilling is a jhimki.

Ice Cream Stick Box

Ice Cream sticks can be used to make a variety of crafts. Especially kids can make it with ease and with less adult supervision. The below box is not a creation of me or my kids but it was gifted to my son by his friend, who learnt it from us during last holiday. Use it as a storage box or trinket box or even coin box.

Products made using Newspaper

Every day we get one newspaper or the other at our homes. After we read that, we just stack it up to be thrown off. Recently, when the go green campaign started people started making paper bags using news papers. I learnt making different items using news paper from another hobby group in Facebook. Made a few articles to keep in Golu.

These are not so perfect creations, but did it for the joy of kids.
